LCSW Supervision in Texas: What’s Required?

In order to sit for your LCSW exam, Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council requires:
  • 3,000 hours of supervised clinical job experience over the course of 24 or more months

  • 100 hours of supervision over the course of those 24 or more months, including at least four hours a month of direct group or individual consultation with your supervisor

What type of work counts?

In order to count toward the needed 3,000 hours, you must assess, diagnose, and treat clients using the DSM-V for an average of four hours per week in direct clinical practice. Not sure if your current position meets those requirements? During our initial consultation, we will discuss if your current position will fulfill these requirements or if you need to look for an alternative way to meet these hours.

What is the time commitment and cost of supervision?

Each month, you are required to attend two 2-hour group supervision sessions at $150 per session ($75/hr).

You may also choose to do individual sessions more frequently, consisting of one 1-hour session each week at $100 per session.

I'm willing to negotiate discounted rates for individuals in special circumstances on an ad hoc basis.

We can discuss mixing group and individual supervision sessions, if you’re interested. Most supervision is done virtually, which means I am able to supervise anyone in the state of Texas seeking their LCSW. If you’d like to meet in person, please reach out via email to check availability and location information.
